Operating an industrial steel coil shearing line involves managing massive kinetic forces, heavy high-torque rotating mandrels, and razor-sharp moving metal edges. While Guangzhou Blue Sky Machine Co., Ltd builds comprehensive physical safety guards and emergency e-stop networks into all our equipment, maintaining a safe workshop environment relies heavily on proper daily operational habits.
To protect both your valuable workshop team and your machinery investment, make sure your operators run through these 3 simple mechanical checks before starting every day shift.

1. Verify Hydraulic Mandrel Expansion and Locking Pressure
Before a heavy 30-Ton or 40-Ton master steel coil is allowed to uncoil, the hydraulic mandrel of the decoiler must expand fully to grip the inner core. Operators must visually check the hydraulic pressure gauge on the control console to ensure it meets the target rating. If the pressure drops due to a worn seal, the jumbo coil could slip during high-speed rotation, causing catastrophic mechanical damage.
2. Inspect the Shear Blade Clearance and Sharpness
Whether your line runs a high-speed rotary fly shear or a heavy hydraulic guillotine shear, running the system with dull knives or incorrect blade clearance is dangerous. Worn blades don't cut cleanly; instead, they tear the metal, creating violent material vibrations and high-velocity metal slivers that can cause severe workplace injuries.
3. Clear Scrap Metal Traps Near the Leveling Grid
As hot rolled or galvanized coils pass through the precision leveling rollers at high speed, loose iron oxide scale, small metal chips, or strap remnants can fall into the roller gears. If these small metal shards build up, they can lock the leveling bearings or cause the rollers to mark the pristine surface of the steel sheets.
Investing 10 minutes in a basic daily cleaning and inspection routine saves thousands of dollars in unexpected downtime.
